mara hoffman
For the past few weeks I have been on the hunt for a little dress for an event I am going to this week - The Best of Washington party at the National Building Museum. I searched high and low for a unique piece but failed miserably in my search.
If only I would have given into a little bit of temptation, I may have ended up with one of these Mara Hoffman babies I've been lusting over for so long...
Hoffman is such an eclectic with her culturally-inspired threads, expertly draped silhouettes and bold prints - definitely a personal favorite.
And to think she got her start just by looking great, walking the streets of New York.
See more of her 2010 collection on her site.

Lonely Hearts.
I have a bit of an obsession with lingerie, I have to say.
But this line from New Zealand-based Lonely Hearts has put my infatuation with delicates over the top.
The LONELY line of underthings is a whimsical mix of chiffon and lace contrasted with straight-up sexy pieces of mesh and velvet – a direct response to the label’s fascination with vintage corsetry and underwear.
Sweet and Sexy.

sunday's best
I was admiring these killer rings on Kelly the other day, and it inspired me to go on a hunt for some of my own.
End result: I found these little gems from Brooklyn line Sunday's Best - a collection of jewels by Sophia Keleta and Samira Chung, launched only a few years back in the spring of 2008.
Inspired by their culture - Sophia has roots in Pakistan and Eritrea and Samira grew up in Equatorial Guinea - intricate patterns, shapes and cut-out details have come to define the line's aesthetic.
Masculine but beautiful.
And, if you feel so inclined (and have the budget)... they are shopable here.

leifsdottir

Very excited about Anthropologie's sister line Leifsdottir, a young designer collection by Finland native Johanna Uurasjarvi.
Meaning “daughter of Leif,” Leifsdottir expresses an appreciation for the Scandinavian custom of inheriting your father’s name as your surname at birth by reflecting a sense of convention and authenticity in each and every piece in the collection.
Old-world fabrics and antique-inspired trims are uniquely mixed with modern silhouettes in the new spring release - yielding one beautiful line of keepsake garments.
Charming and timeless, don't you think?

holiday cravings (to give and get!)
A cozy cowl. But, I did just purchase this infinity and I LOVE.
The COMPLETE Winchester Jane Austen collection. I found two of these (Pride and Prejudice and Emma). They are so beautifully made.
An outrageous bag. Two words: Too cool.
Cut-out gloves. I love the unexpected.
Thigh-high socks. Huge fan of this comeback.
A polaroid-like camera. Because it's awesome.
The perfect oxford dress. Would look cute with those thigh-highs :)

In the library. Because I adore that old book smell.
Winter booties. Cowboy up.
For more, check out my gift guide for her on BUZZ-BEAST.

P.S. Giveaway tomorrow. Make sure to stop back!

sacred mountain

In my hunt yesterday for some gold chain (I'm finally starting to get on the ball with this whole making my own jewelry thing...), I came across this amazing site All for the Mountain.
Designed by one Cavern Wallpaper owner Carly Margolis, each geometric piece is hand carved in wax and cast in bronze - or silver or gold, if you prefer.
Each unique adornment really channels ancient Egypt - which is so creatively displayed in the site's photos, too.
My favorite piece is the Double Sided Triangle: Measuring 29 inches, it can be worn long or short by balancing the triangles on your front and back.

old school
Erica Weiner has turned her Lower East Side apartment into a little jewelry empire, making eye-catching, affordable pieces out of repurposed materials, base metals, and vintage chain and charms.
Each item, be it a piece of type from an old letterpress or a miniature harmonica, is beautifully nostalgic.
And, I just love them all.
But, my absolute favorite is Erica's Waldorf Astoria necklace - a hand-cast reproduction of a 1930s-50s cocktail pick from the historic Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York City.

Odette Love
Classic, natural shapes get reinvented in Odette New York's jewelry line.
Jennifer Sarkilahti, a New York City artist who designs and crafts this distinctive collection, begins each original piece with a pencil sketch that is carefully fabricated - by hand - into a tiny wax sculpture before being cast into metal. The handmade pieces are delicate and organic - and each has its own rich cut and texture.
I can't decide which one (or two or three) I want. But, my absolute favorite is the Snake Necklace. What's yours?
