sewn news

Artist Lauren DiCioccio explores the tangible beauty of mass-produced media objects, like newspapers and magazines, as these commonplace items begin to depart from their paper form.

Her tedious handwork features these simple but intimate pieces of everyday life, hoping to describe the nostalgic beauty of these objects to her audience in the form of craft.

The pieces in her series sewnnews showcase entire issues of The New York Times encased in hand-embroidered cotton muslin. Thread outlines the images - color by color layered in a painterly fashion.

I love when artists find new canvases on which to work. So creative.
