home sweet home

Happy Sunday all. Hope you had a great weekend.

I had a wonderful weekend for sure. I didn't do too much but my Saturday definitely was enough of a great day to last me for awhile.

Ten of my coworker friends and I volunteered Saturday for Habitat for Humanity DC. We worked in a Habitat community in Northeast finishing up a couple of the last homes in that neighborhood. My team (dubbed "The A Team" by our team leader, who works for AmeriCorps) worked on finishing up drywall in the basement of a home. And by finishing I mean measuring, cutting and hanging the actual drywall - no messing around (my muscles still hurt a little!).  We worked on this all day but it was more than satisfying. It felt good to contribute to the walls of someone's actual home. We got to meet the future homeowner, too, which made the experience all the better.

When I was in high school a friend of mine lived in a Habitat house. His Dad had taken off and left the family with little to nothing and I remember how happy my friend was that people dedicated their time to give them that house. Since then I've always wanted to volunteer and I'm happy that I got the opportunity Saturday. It was work but it was also a lot of fun. I highly recommend.

Have a great week everyone!

That's awesome! I volunteered with Habitat when I was in college, and you've inspired me to get involved again!
