drop dead gorgeous

In light of the 2nd Friday the 13th in a row, I find it only fitting to feature artist Melanie Pullen. "Dorothy" and "Stairs" (both shown below) are just two of more than a hundred photographs in her recent collection of high fashion crime scenes.

The photographs are recreations of compelling vintage crime scene images that she was able to mine from the records of the LA Police Department, among other sources. Inspired by the rich detail of the cases, she began to stage re-enactments of the evocative documentary photos.

Pullen takes aim at society's glamorization of violence, dressing her "victims" in haute couture, ultimately distracting the eye from the otherwise gruesome subjects. Soooo creeeepy but soooo cooool. If you're in Cali, she has a couple of exhibitions going on NOW. Check her out.
